Downton Abbey<\/a> star, Michael Fox<\/a>  recorded a version of Nick Cave<\/a>\u2019s Into My Arms<\/em> at The Vault<\/a> \u2013 the newest recording space within Miloco\u2019s London HQ \u2013 using an OC818<\/a> microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The singer is most recognisable for his work in TV and film, playing footman, Andy Parker in popular British period drama, Downton Abbey<\/em>. He also appeared in the 2019 Downton Abbey<\/em> movie, and appeared in Christopher Nolan\u2019s multi-award-winning 2017 film, Dunkirk<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Producer On Guitars:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Austrian Audio OC818 microphones were used to record piano and to capture vocals and guitar together. The producer of the session noted how close you can mic a guitar using the OC818:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„You can do that comfortably with an OC818 around the 12th fret, or even closer to the sound hole, and not worry about any boominess in the recording, such is the control it offers, particularly in omni mode. The acoustic guitar sounds fantastic through the OC818 without any processing at all \u2013 the air at the top end is great, and the midrange has plenty of presence.“<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Producer On Piano:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

„We decided to overdub a little piano, and the OC18s are perfect for this: one either side, about eight inches above the instrument. Not a hint of noise in the signal, totally clean, and really no need to EQ anything either \u2013 there is enough warmth and plenty of sparkle, which is just what we want in order for the piano to cut through. The track essentially mixed itself!“<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael Fox’s Verdict:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

„It was great fun working at The Vault, and we got a lot done in a short period of time; it\u2019s a very relaxing and cool space to record in. I love this Nick Cave song, so there is always pressure putting your own take on it, but I was really pleased with how it came out.
The OC818 captured all the dynamics in my voice, and being such a gentle song to sing for the most part, I got right up close to the mic, yet had no issues with popping or boominess. It\u2019s very natural-sounding with a great low end.“<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
